Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a natural phenomenon that occurs during the fertilization of a sperm cell and an ovum

The sperm cell is a microscopic and motile gamete made up of three parts namely, the head (containing the acrosome),the middle part(containing mitochondria to activate the sperm) and the tail(flagellum for movement). The sperm comes from the man

The ovum, however is a large,non-motile egg produced in the body of every woman.

During sex, when the man is sexually excited, his penis becomes erectile and he produces a liquid called semen which contains millions of sperms.

When he inserts his penis into the vagina of the woman,he deposits his semen and the sperms swim up to the ovum

Only one sperm can fertilize the egg,the rest die due to the high acidity of the woman's body.

The sperms break down the protective wall of the ovum which permits that one sperm to fertilize the egg.

Fusion occurs and a zygote is formed. The zygote moves down to the uterus through the fallopian tube and implants itself in the uterus.

Growth begins and pregnancy occurs.

Parthenogenesis, or asexual reproduction, occurs in plants via the process of apomixes. In animal species, there is the process of meiosis (forming normal haploid egg cells with half as many chromosomes as their mother's body dells). But Parthenogenesis can also occur without meiosis via mitotic oogenisis.

But really, in none of those cases can anyone or anything be said to have gotten pregnant. That's going to take some good old-fashioned sexual reproduction.

A man's sperm must reach an egg inside the woman. After the egg is fertilized then the woman becomes pregnant.
